                                              Frequently Asked Questions

I have been to worship several times.  Now what?

Great question, and we are glad you asked this one!  There are several things you could do.  First, be watching for a guest and new member's class we call Genesis.  This class rolls around on a periodic basis.  It helps you find out even more about us and allows you to get any questions answered.  You will also have the opportunity to meet the pastors and a few other folks.  Second, if you know someone or are invited, please feel free to join in a small group, Sunday School class or other group. For some folks, just jumping right in works well.  Third, you are more than welcome to request a time to sit down with one of our pastors or leaders to talk about whatever you feel is important.

Is there a difference between the worship services?

Every Sunday morning we have two services: one at 8:30 and another 10:50.  At the deepest level, our services are the same.  We see worship as something that is primarily about God.  In worship, we gather to offer all that we are to God and to honor and praise all that He is. All of our services are created with this perspective in mind.  Our services are also similar in that they contain singing, scripture reading, prayers, biblical sermons, drama, Communion and baptisms.  However, our services do differ in a few minor ways.  The 8:30 service is more traditional with a more formal structure and the organ and piano being used to sing hymns.  The 10:50 service would be considered more contemporary having a less formal feel and a worship band leading more contemporary songs.

                                              Do you provide a nursery?

We provide a nursery staffed by paid and volunteer helpers.  The nursery is located on the same floor as the sanctuary just down the hall from the Welcome Center.  Our nursery has two sections: one for newborns and babies and another for toddlers to 4 yrs.

Is there anything for my kids?

We have lots of opportunities for your children and youth to take part in the life of our congregation.  On Sunday mornings, there is Sunday school for children and youth ranging from ages 3yrs through HS.  We welcome and encourage families to worship together.  However, we do have Children's Church for children from ages 5 yrs. through the 6th grade.  The children going to Children's Church are dismissed part way through the regular service.  Please click the tabs for "Kids for Christ" and "Youth Ministries" to discover other great opportunities for your children and youth.

If I visit your church, where should I park?

There is plenty of parking all around our building.  Parking is available along Main St., along Wabash St., in the city parking lot across from the building and in the parking lot just south of the building.

How do I get involved in a small group?

There are several small groups and Sunday School Classes at Peru First Baptist Church. If you are interested in being a part of a small group or Sunday School class please use the contact us form.

What do I wear to Peru First Baptist Church?

Anything you would like. There are some who feel most comfortable in the "Sunday best". You will see some in ties and dresses, others in jeans. Those who tend the early service tend to dress a little more formal, while those in the late service tend to dress more casually.  We believe that you should dress as you feel comfortable and in a way that facilitates your worship.

                                              What time are services?

Our Traditional service begins at 8:30 a.m. and our Contemporary service begins at 10:50 a.m. on Sundays.

How do I learn about the process for becoming a member of Peru First Baptist Church?

Everyone is welcome at Peru First Baptist Church.  Membership is a commitment that we encourage you to make if you attend our church regularly.  You may wish to attend a Genesis class or foundations class before making that commitment, but you should discuss the decision to join with one of our pastors.
